A Three-Day Cherry Blossom Wedding Experience in Tokyo

Some weddings are not simply events — they become a journey shared with everyone involved.

Kerry and Berlin’s cherry blossom wedding in Tokyo was one of those unforgettable celebrations.

Traveling from San Francisco with more than 100 guests, the couple envisioned a wedding experience that would immerse their family and friends in the beauty, hospitality, and culture of Japan over the course of three meaningful days.

A Couple Deeply Connected to Japan

From our very first conversation more than a year and a half before the wedding, it was clear how intentional they were about every detail.

Kerry, a successful businesswoman and graceful Japanese dance (“Odori”) instructor with deep Japanese roots, carried herself with effortless elegance and warmth. Even in kimono, she embodied the natural poise and quiet beauty of a true Yamato Nadeshiko.

A year before the wedding, the couple traveled to Japan for venue visits and planning meetings. During that trip, they also chose to work with the talented photographer Ms. Shu for an artistic pre-wedding session.

On the day of the shoot, heavy rain poured across Kamakura area all morning, yet just one hour before the session began, the sky suddenly cleared. It felt nothing short of miraculous, and it remains one of those moments we will never forget.

Thoughtful Planning Across Continents

Throughout the planning process, Kerry and Berlin were exceptionally thoughtful and organized.

They visited Japan twice before the wedding, carefully exploring every part of the guest experience — from the welcome party venue and hotels to the farewell brunch café. We accompanied them throughout the process, helping coordinate logistics and ensuring every detail felt seamless for their guests arriving from overseas.

A Cherry Blossom Welcome Party in Ginza

The celebrations began with a welcome party at Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo.

The restaurant was transformed with large cherry blossom branches, creating an atmosphere that felt both modern and unmistakably Japanese. Guests enjoyed a relaxed buffet-style evening, where the tonkatsu sandwiches quickly became a favorite.

A Wedding Reception Filled with Japanese Artistry

The wedding day itself became a spectacular two-floor celebration filled with emotion, artistry, and cultural touches.

Thousands of hanging origami cranes floated above the reception, paired with dramatic cherry blossom installations that transformed the space into something almost dreamlike.

Japanese traditions were thoughtfully woven throughout the day, including taiko performances and a lively kagami-biraki sake ceremony. Wooden masu cups, handwritten with each guest’s name, served as place cards, while signature cocktails were named after the couple’s beloved dog.

Personalized Details Inspired by Japan

One of the most personal details was the custom escort card display.

The couple lovingly handmade traditional-inspired pieces for each guest — kanzashi-style accessories for women and floral corsages for men — which we carefully incorporated into the escort presentation design.

Even the guest messages were reimagined through a Japanese lens. Inspired by Tanabata traditions, guests wrote their wishes and messages on colorful tanzaku paper, creating a meaningful interactive installation during the celebration.

Because Kerry and Berlin love indigo blue, custom indigo bandanas were created for the guests. When the couple made their grand entrance into the reception, guests waved the bandanas throughout the two-floor venue in celebration — a moment filled with energy, joy, and unity.

Live Music, Studio Ghibli, and an Unforgettable Tokyo Night

For cocktail hour and the reception, live music by feat. A filled the space with warmth and elegance, including beautiful performances of beloved Studio Ghibli songs that brought an emotional softness to the evening.

As night fell over Tokyo, one final surprise awaited.

Against the glittering backdrop of Tokyo Tower, renowned Japanese DJ Shota delivered an unforgettable performance. Berlin had long been a fan, and we were honored to help coordinate this special appearance for their wedding celebration.

The atmosphere that night was electric, stylish, and unmistakably Tokyo.

A Farewell Brunch and Baseball at Tokyo Dome

The celebrations continued the following day with a farewell brunch at a beloved café in Ebisu famous for its pancakes.

But the weekend still was not over.

In one final adventure, the couple arranged buses for nearly 100 guests to attend a Yomiuri Giants baseball game at Tokyo Dome — a perfect nod to their love for the San Francisco Giants back home.

We joined them there as well, sharing laughter, baseball, and one last memory together before everyone returned home.

More Than a Wedding

It was more than a wedding weekend.

It was an unforgettable celebration of culture, connection, and the joy of bringing people together in Japan.

Mina’s project management skills and years of experience as a wedding planner are clearly evident and you are in good hands if you get the opportunity to work with her.
