💍 Destination Weddings in Japan – FAQ

Planning a destination wedding in Japan is a unique and meaningful experience.
Below are some helpful insights for international couples considering Japan for their celebration.

(Q)Why work with your team?

We provide a seamless, bilingual wedding experience designed for international couples.
Our services include venue selection, planning, wedding design direction, vendor coordination, floral styling, and guest support.

Mina, the founder, has over 20 years of experience in international weddings and floral design across Hawaii and Japan. Since 2023, she has been based in Tokyo, focusing on destination weddings for couples traveling to Japan.

Our work goes beyond decoration. We carefully consider atmosphere, architecture, and the relationship between design and space to create celebrations that feel both beautiful and meaningful.

Many of our weddings take place in Tokyo and Kyoto, where historic architecture and cultural venues create an exceptional setting. Through years of experience, we have built trusted relationships with venues and local professionals..

(Q)What should we know before planning a wedding in Japan?

Wedding planning in Japan can differ from Europe or the United States.

• Many venues operate with fixed wedding packages.
• Only a small number of venues allow outside vendors.
• Public photo shoots often require government permission and advance planning.

Working with an experienced bilingual planner with strong local venue relationships helps ensure a smooth planning process.

(Q)Can we have a religious ceremony in Japan?

Religious ceremonies may require adjustments depending on the venue.

• Catholic church weddings are usually limited to registered members or couples who can attend preparation classes.
• Hindu weddings may face restrictions, as some venues cannot allow fire rituals or large guest counts. And fully certified Indian meals are rarely available.
• Jewish weddings can also be challenging, as rabbis are very limited in Japan, and fully certified kosher meals are rarely available. Some venues may be able to make accommodations, such as avoiding pork or dairy products.

For this reason, many couples choose to have a non-religious ceremony, which is quite common in Japan.
We can also introduce experienced English-speaking officiants, including American or Australian ministers in Japan who are familiar with international weddings in Japan.
Many couples also choose to bring their own officiant from their home country, and we are happy to assist with coordination.

(Q)What types of venues do you offer?

Our weddings take place at carefully selected venues such as:

• Garden hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto, and the Kanto region.
• Historic Japanese houses with traditional gardens
• Museums and cultural institutions
• Heritage venues with architectural significance
• Nature venues with views of Mt. Fuji

Our weddings are primarily produced in Tokyo, Kyoto, and the Kanto region.
At this time we do not provide planning services in Hokkaido, Okinawa, Karuizawa, or other resort destinations in Japan.

(Q)What services do you offer?

• Premium Wedding Weekend Planning & Design
• Bespoke Wedding Planning & Design
• Wedding Design Management & Personal Concierge
• Luxury Elopements for two
• Luxury Intimate Micro Weddings (up to 20 guests)
• Vow Renewal Ceremonies

We specialize in partner venues that allow outside vendors and international-style weddings.
Please note: We do not offer weddings in public spaces such as parks, beaches, or mountain forests.

(Q)Can we customize the wedding design?

Design flexibility depends on the venue.
Many venues in Japan operate with pre-set wedding packages, which can limit decoration and vendor choices.
However, we primarily work with a carefully curated selection of partner venues where we have built trusted relationships over many years.
Within these relationships, there are sometimes opportunities for additional flexibility that are not generally available.
Our design philosophy is simple:

“Japan is a place where ideas must adapt to the space.”

Rather than imposing a concept, we design celebrations that harmonize with the architecture, gardens, and atmosphere of each venue.

(Q)Can you arrange welcome dinners or after-parties?

Yes. Many destination weddings in Japan include multiple events.
We can assist with planning welcome dinners, rehearsal dinners, after-parties, or farewell gatherings at restaurants or private venues.
These events are arranged separately from the wedding day planning.

(Q)Do you assist with guest transportation and accommodations?

Yes. Guest support is an important part of destination weddings.
We can assist with guest accommodations at the wedding venue or the venue’s partner hotels, and arrange transportation such as shuttle buses between the hotels and the ceremony venue.
For activities or travel experiences beyond the wedding events, we collaborate with trusted travel agencies and are happy to share our recommended locations.

(Q)Do you work with any venue in Japan?

To ensure the highest level of service, we work primarily with a carefully curated selection of partner venues.
These venues allow outside vendors, personalized design, and international-style celebrations.
For this reason, planning services for venues outside our network are generally not offered.

(Q)How much should we expect to invest?

Our planning and design services typically range from
¥660,000 – ¥2,500,000
depending on guest count and event complexity.

Most of our couples invest approximately
¥4,000,000 – ¥15,000,000+

for their overall wedding in Japan, including venue, florals, photography, videography, hair and makeup, and dining.
Because we accept a limited number of weddings each year, we recommend reaching out early.

(Q)When is the best time to get married in Japan?

Japan offers beautiful seasonal settings.

Spring (Late March – May)
Cherry blossom season begins in late March.
Mid-April through May offers pleasant weather.

Autumn (Mid-October – Early December)
Cool temperatures and beautiful autumn foliage, with peak colors in late November and early December.

Periods to avoid

• June — rainy season
• July–early September — hot and humid / typhoon season
• Year-end holidays— Japan’s most important holiday period. Many vendors are unavailable and holiday surcharges may apply.
• January–February — cold winter weather

✨ We recommend contacting us at least Ten months in advance.

(Q)Are we the right fit?

We work best with couples who:
