5 things to know before PLANNING YOUR “DREAM Sakura Wedding” in Japan.

March 31, 2023

Photographer : Fox Visual Collectors

1) The blooming TIME is CRUCIAL

As you may know, the sakura blooming season varies year by year depending on the weather.
We can’t give you a specific day when but the cherry blossom season in Japan usually starts in late March from Tokyo and lasts until early May in the northern part of Japan.

However this year, 2023, Sakura Blooming came early on 3/14/2023. It's 10days earlier than last year in Tokyo!

2) Only a week ~10days last

In addition, the blossoms only last for about 10days !
To further complicate the picture, the weather in Japan at this time of year is very unpredictable for rainy days.
Sakura petals fallen down so soon once it's raining.
Consequently, only mother nature knows blooming timing and last how many days.

We can try our luck to have your dream Sakura wedding, but it’s essential to have at least one back-up plan.

3) WE ADVISE TO BOOK EARLY

Sakura weddings are on demand and spring is the busiest wedding season in Japan. With that being said, the venues and vendors are getting booked up quickly.

We recommend to start planning and booking as early as possible, ideally at least a year in advance to secure your desired location and vendors.

4) BE PREPARED

Since it’s spring it’s best to be prepared because public places are usually crowded so I suggest to book a private venue instead.
Also, in this Sakura season, large number of tourists and locals flocking to see the beautiful blooms.
It's important to factor in the crowds when planning your wedding, especially if you're considering a public location like a park.

Keep in mind that if you would like to have your Sakura photo shooting or ceremony in a public area, you need permission from Japanese local government.

From our previous experiences, it really takes time to get permission.
The worst case scenario is you won’t be allowed to do your ceremony. (especially some public parks in Tokyo), so we suggest to book a private venue like Hotels or restaurants which have nice Sakura tree Japanese garden view etc, to have your photos and ceremony without any hassles & trouble.

5) NUPTIAL CEREMONY & PHOTOSHOOT LOCATION

As you know, Japan is an island from North to South. And climate is really different.
And it’s actually a good thing!

There are some famous local Sakura view places and timings all over in Japan!
For example, there is some kind of Sakura tree which starts blooming in early March in the southern part of Japan and some kind of full bloom in late May in the mountain area or Northern part of Japan.

As a result, we sill need to think as it's still blooming, the timing is still crucial depending on the weather, but those areas are calmer than Tokyo at least.

We suggest you to talk with your photographers (they have their secret spots! ) and if you would like to have your wedding ceremony need party arrangement after that, we have several ideas of your Sakura Wedding too so please contact us if you have any concerns or questions.
